calling tech support.
If there comes a time that you need to call technical support at CentralVa.Net
(434.385.5053), here are some tips that will make things go a lot smoother.
- Please know what OS (Operating System) you are running - is it Windows
95/98/ME/XP/NT/2000?
- Please know your username - your username is the first part of
your email account - username@centralva.net
- Don't forget your password - if you don't think you can remember it, please
write it down somewhere - we can reset passwords but our Linux system
protects them so we can't retrieve them again.
- If you are using CentralVa.Net for email, but you are connected to the
Internet using DSL or a
cable modem please tell us because it makes a big difference
on how we troubleshoot your problem.
- If you are running a server, router, or proxy - this is all important
information we need to know up front before we try to troubleshoot the
problem.
- If you are getting error messages please save those or leave them on the
screen so you can read the message to the technician - the exact error message
- just telling someone "I can't get online" isn't very
specific....
- It is also very important to know what your connection is - do you dial-up
via an analog 56k modem or do you have an ISDN connection - just telling us
you are on a LAN isn't helpful.
- Please be in front of your computer when you call us so we can walk you
through adjusting your settings
If you can give us all of the information listed above then we can solve your problem
in no time - but the more investigating we have to do takes away from our
troubleshooting time. We want to provide you with the fastest
troubleshooting available so you can get back online!
